There were many years in Kim’s career when she could not see beyond the next deadline and she needed to work weekends to keep her head above water. Over time, she shifted her schedule to not only focus on work, but also engage in community efforts.
Within her community, Kim is an active P.E.O. sorority sister (P.E.O is an organization dedicated to empowering women through grants and scholarships for higher education). She volunteers annually at local charitable events such as McKinney Empty Bowls, a fundraiser to raise awareness about food scarcity. She also volunteers at the Maggie Thompson Invitational charitable golf tournament, which is a 501c3 organization supporting regional benefactors. Lastly, she volunteered for the Big Sister Little Sister Mentoring program to foster leadership in young women to help them excel personally and academically.
She was honored to serve as a guest presenter for two University of North Texas classes: Proposal Writing and Advanced Technical Communication. She has also represented the construction industry as a mentor at the Oregon UPLIFT Career Summit, an annual four-day playshop for youths interested in building job readiness skills and exploring different career positions.
In her downtime, Kim enjoys spending time with friends at her book club and bunco group and walking her four-legged canine coworker, Dottie. Food occupies much of Kim's attention, from meal planning and shopping for ingredients to putting it all together—and, of course, eating it. She loves trying new recipes.
